Week 07 (May 3-May 9)

Mary Finlayson, RSCJ

We began this week with a reflection on the month of May being dedicated to Mary, Jesus’ Mother. Tomorrow is Mother’s Day in Canada, the United States and other countries. How do we begin to thank our Mothers for all they have given us?

I know my Mother was the first to nurture my faith, my belonging to the Catholic Church, my devotion to the Sacred Heart. Let us remember and celebrate our Mothers, Mary our Mother and all who have loved and nurtured us with a Mother’s love. And let us pray for all the great women sharing life and love in the world today!

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, over 270 million viewers watched One World: Together At Home, a globally broadcast concert that raised over $128 million for COVID-19 relief through the World Health Organization. We are so proud of Lady Gaga, alumna of the Convent of the Sacred Heart (91st Street) in New York City, who was a key organizer of the event.

Today we offer this song, “Soon You’ll Get Better,” performed at that concert by Taylor Swift, written for her Mother, who was diagnosed with cancer.

Let us pray for all who are ill, those who care for them and all who love them. Let us remember all who have died and pray for those who grieve.
