Sister Maria Schlömer was born in Karlsbad, Germany. She made her first profession with the Mariannhill Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1962 and her final profession in 1970 and transferred to the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1982 and transferred her vows in 1985. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kutztown University in 1972 and a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a Master of Science degree in Oncology Nursing from Saint Louis University.
Most recently, Sister Schlömer served as the parish nurse for St. James Parish. She has also ministered as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Louis Regional Hospital and St. John’s Mercy Medical Center (now known simply as Mercy). Sister Schlömer was a religion teacher at Villa Duchesne and a counselor at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, both in St. Louis. She served in campus ministry at Quincy College and at the University of Pennsylvania Newman Center. She served as a youth program coordinator in Reading, Pennsylvania and as a group mother for a
Sisters of Good Shepherd home in Pennsylvania.
Sister Schlömer is fluent in two languages and conversant in another two. She enjoys knitting, crocheting, calligraphy, working with young people and serving her local parish. Most of her nursing ministry was in Oncology and Parish Nursing.
