Rosemary Bearss, RSCJ

Sister Rosemary Bearss

Born in Portland, Oregon, Rosemary Bearss, RSCJ, entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1951. She made her first vows May 5, 1954 and her final profession July 21, 1960. Her time in the Society has been divided between the classroom and provincial administration. From 1994 to 2014, she served at Coconut Grove Cares, a community center in a low-income part of Miami. She recently moved to Atherton, California, where she works in pastoral ministry with our retired sisters at Oakwood.

Sister Bearss’ first assignment was as classroom teacher at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha. From 1960-68, she served as treasurer for Duchesne College, also in Omaha, before returning to school to complete her Masters of Business Administration. She later served at Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois, 1978-81.

She served on the Chicago Provincial Team, 1976-82, and then on the Provincial Team of the newly-formed United States Province, 1982-88. In 1988, she became provincial and served until 1993. She has been at Coconut Grove Cares ever since. She also served on the boards at Maryville College University and the University of San Diego, among many others.

Rosemary Bearss, RSCJ, earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Duchesne College, a Master’s of Business Administration from DePaul University and a Master’s of Divinity from Loyola University.
