Religious of the Sacred Heart, Patricia Reid neé Tighe died on October 11, 2022, in Albany, New York. Pat was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 11, 1930, to Joseph A. Tighe and Anna M. Cassidy. She was one of four children with two sisters and a brother and enjoyed a happy childhood with a large extended family.

On a rare rainy day in Atherton, California, in mid-September the staff, residents, and friends of Oakwood Retirement Community – one of and the largest of the Province’s retirement communities – gathered for an open house to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Oakwood.

Religious of the Sacred Heart, Mary “Be” Mardel died October 4, 2022, in Atherton, California. She was 104 years old. Mary, or “Be” as she was affectionately known, was born on March 2, 1918, in Seattle, Washington, to Charles Mary Mardel and Ethel Alton Mardel. She was the oldest of three children. Her brother Joseph died at birth in 1919, and her brother Charles died in 1944 at the age of twenty. Sister Mardel attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Menlo Park, California, graduating in 1935.

This past July, Elizabeth Hicks, Chair of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Board of Trustees, announced Sheila Haggas as Executive Director of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and Canada.
The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration of prayer and action for our common home. Together, the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect God’s creation. The season starts on September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends October 4, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.
