In the early hours of August 20, 2024, the secretary general of the Society's General Chapter 2024 announced the election of Claire Castaing, RSCJ, as the next superior general of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Sister Castaing is from the Belgium-France-Netherlands Province and will serve an eight-year term.
She has served as a BFN provincial team member from 2012-2014 and BFN Provincial from 2014-2021. She was a member of the models committee, which helped prepare for the Society's Special Chapter 2021, and she previously served on the Society's International Planning Commission, which works with the Society's General Council and recommends a plan to implement the decision of the Special Chapter of 2021 for reorganization of the Society.
On Friday, August 30, 2024, the International Society of the Sacred Heart announced the nomination of the new Society of the Sacred Heart General Council who will serve with Superior General Claire Castaing, RSCJ, for an 8-year term. The new General Council will be: Ananda Amritmahal, RSCJ, of the Province of India; Noellina Namusisi, RSCJ, of the Uganda – Kenya Province; Francisca (Paqui) Rodríguez, RSCJ, of the Province of Spain, and Sheila Smith, RSCJ, of the United States – Canada Province.
The USC Province joins the entire Society of the Sacred Heart family in joyfully welcoming these sisters to their new roles and praying for them as they embark on this new chapter in Rome!
