Monday reflection: Change of heart
By Lizzie Hardman Schneiberg,
Associate Director of Admissions, Convent & Stuart Hall High School – San Francisco;
HEART Response TeamĀ

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone
and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26
Ā
In this time of change, of loss, of grief, of hope
of tragedy, of violence, of new birth, of ācanāt go backā
of saying good-bye, and making space, of listening twice as much as we speak,
of not being in charge and being willing to step upā¦
In this time
Ā has your heart of stone given way
To a new heart
A new spirit
Discovering the heart of fleshĀ
in the most unexpected placesā¦

My husband and I were volunteering a few weeks ago at the San Francisco food bank pop-ups. As we were assembling hundreds of bags of foodĀ with many other volunteers,Ā the line ā threeĀ blocks long āĀ never depleted for a moment. This photo showsĀ a potato that I grabbed out of the huge bag.Ā
To me, it is a heart!Ā It made me smile. Indeed, God’s love is everywhere.
Ā
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;Ā
I will remove from you your heart of stone
and give you a heart of flesh.
