St. Louis, Missouri -- Priscilla (Pat) Meier, RSCJ, a beloved educator and administrator who served for twenty-four years at Convent of the Sacred Heart, 91st St., New York City, as Plant Director and Activities Coordinator, died November 5, 2008, at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She was 78.

Sister Meier was born November 10, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Priscilla Meier. She was a Religious of the Sacred Heart for almost 57 years, entering in September 1951 at age 22 and professing final vows in 1960. She graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Lawrence Avenue, Detroit, in 1947, and earned both a bachelor’s degree in 1951 and a master’s degree in 1958 from Manhattanville College, Purchase, New York.

During her early years in the Society, Sister Meier taught students in primary grades through high school in Albany, NY, Grosse Pointe, MI, and Rochester, NY.

From 1960 to 1967 and from 1972-73, she served in Rome in the General Secretariat of the Society of the Sacred Heart and worked with sisters preparing for final profession. Gifted with both talent and a love for music, Sister Meier served the National Children’s Choir in Washington, DC from 1974-75.

Sister Meier served as Administrator at Kenwood Convent of the Sacred Heart, Albany, NY from 1998 until 2002. While working with retired sisters at Kenwood, she also served as a director with the Braille Association, a group formed to work on behalf of the blind which met on the Albany campus and had a longstanding relationship with many of the sisters living there. Sister Meier continued this work until her death and also served at All Saints School in Harlem.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Oderman of Birmingham, MI, a brother, Thomas Meier, of Northville, MI, and many nieces and nephews.

Sister Meier’s body will be cremated and buried at Kenwood in Albany, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Convent of the Sacred Heart, 1 East 91st Street in New York City at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. November 10, 2008.
