About the Society of the Sacred Heart
Society of the Sacred Heart, United States-Canada, is part of an international congregation of Catholic women religious. Founded in 1800 by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, the Society of the Sacred Heart has more than 2,200 members in provinces in 41 countries. Members of the Society are known as Religious of the Sacred Heart - or RSCJ, and participate in the mission of the Catholic Church through the service of education.

The Shrine is located in St. Charles, Missouri and is on the grounds of the Academy of the Sacred Heart. The Shrine receives many visitors from across the globe and also hosts various functions and events.

About the Position
The Director of the Shrine is the primary contact for all Shrine activities and is responsible for the operations of the Shrine with the support of the Provincial Office staff.

The Director’s primary responsibilities include:

A. Maintenance and preparation of a Shrine Budget
B. Overseeing the facilities, including the Shrine and the historic rooms
C. Working with provincial finance and mission advancement staff to coordinate payment of invoices and to coordinate donations
D. Working and acting as a liaison with the Academy, local parishes, and Archdiocese for pilgrimages, visitors and other uses of the Shrine
E. Designing and implementing programs for visitors or educational groups
F. Coordinating the welcoming of pilgrimage groups visiting the Shrine
G. Maintaining the “gift shop” of the Shrine and keeping stock and inventory of religious books and other items available for purchase
H. Training and supervision of volunteer docents and one part-time employee

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role or have a skill set that would translate into this role. Preference will be given to a candidate who has experience and familiarity with the Sacred Heart charism and traditions and has worked with a religious congregation. Other qualifications required include:

1. A minimum of an associate’s degree
2. Ability to work independently without a lot of supervision
3. Ability to be problem-solver and team player
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills
5. Polished and professional presence
6. Enjoyment working with people of all ages and abilities
7. Willingness to work weekend hours, as necessary, and travel to locations within the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
8. Ability to drive and have own car
9. Ability to lift and carry at least 25 lbs.
10. Ability to stand for long periods of time
