Kristi Laughlin and myself, both Associates in San Francisco, California, met by chance on the streets, protesting the financing of the climate profiteers in downtown San Francisco's financial district on September 25, 2019.
The action toook place as a part of the Global Climate Strike week. I was part of 1,000 Grandmothers for Future Generations, whose assignment was to stop traffic at the northernmost intersection so 20 climate solution murals could be painted on the two blocks shut down by the 400 protestors.. Kristi works at the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE) and frequently organizes protests just like this one.
We were answering the call of young Greta Thunberg and of all our young relatives: to help redeem their future. Kristi has a son who is 9 years old. I have twin granddaughters the same age, and we share in the feeling that it is essential to be the heart of Jesus in our world by working as hard as we can to reverse the climate crisis.
We depend on the spiritual support of our Associate group and on our relationship with Religious of the Sacred Heart and the wider Sacred Heart community! This is one way we live out of the charism of the Society, and we see this vocation with the Society of the Sacred Heart as an essential part of our mission and calling in today's world.
