Religious of the Sacred Heart Margaret “Margie” Conroy died on January 11, 2024, in Uganda. She was 93 years old and a religious for 72 years. Margie was born on August 25, 1930, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Betty McGrath Conroy and Jim Conroy. She had one older brother, Charlie. When she was nine months old, her father died suddenly, leaving her mother with two small children. Her father and grandfather had worked in partnership as barristers.

Religious of the Sacred Heart Rosemary Dobler died on January 4, 2024, in Atherton, California. She was ninety-two years old and a religious for seventy-four years. Rosemary, or “Rody” as she was called, was born on October 15, 1931, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to William Oscar Dobler and Rose Beardsley Dobler. She was the fifth girl and the youngest of seven children.
This winter issue of Heart magazine explores the myriad ways our Sacred Heart family lives out and continues to grow the mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart to discover and reveal God's love in the heart of the world, with a focus on the RSCJ's fourth vow, a commitment to the education of youth.

Religious of the Sacred Heart Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Gavan, died December 19, 2023, at Oakwood in Atherton, California. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday, December 5, 1934, the first child of John Patrick Gavan and Louise Ann Murphy. Her brother, John Christopher, was born the following year. Her father joined the U.S. Army Air Force Medical Corps in 1942 with the rank of Captain, only to die six months later of pneumonia at Mitchell Field in New York.
