In prayer we come to Him with everything that touches our life,
with the sufferings and hopes of humanity.

As apostolic contemplatives, Religious of the Sacred Heart root our lives in prayer. With a mission to discover and reveal the love of God, our spirituality and our mission are based in love. Our contemplative outlook is part of who we are, whether in prayer, in ministry or in our daily lives.

"The contemplative outlook on the world has been a call to be authentic apostles of Christ's love, to help bring to birth a more welcoming world, to make known a God who is great, bountiful and tender. It is a call to educate in such a way that God's plan, God's glory, may become a reality, so that all may grow as brothers and sisters in the inward freedom of the children of God, and have fullness of life." (Superior General Concepcion Camacho, RSCJ)

The pierced Heart of Jesus opens our being to the depths of God and to the anguish of humankind.

On these pages, we will share prayers, poems, reflections and artwork that reflect the spirituality of the Society of the Sacred Heart. We hope you will return here periodically for resources appropriate to the liturgical season and our Sacred Heart traditions.

Enter More Deeply

Photo by Kevin TuckWe invite all to enter more deeply into the calls of Chapter 2008 during Advent.  In support of this invitation, an Advent Reflection will be posted on the RSCJ website for each week of Advent.  These reflections will be prepared by members of the province who have been asked to offer their own insights into Advent and the calls of the Chapter 2008.

Irish prayer

Take time to work, it is the price of success. Take time to think, it is the source of power. Take time to play, it is the secret of perpetual youth. Take time to read, it is the foundation of wisdom...

Prayer for Advent

With tender comfort and transforming power
You come into our midst,
O God of mercy and might.

With tender comfort and transforming power
You come into our midst,
O God of mercy and might.

Make ready a way in the wilderness,
clear a straight path in our hearts,
and form us into a repentant people,
that the advent of your Son
may find us watchful and eager for the glory He reveals.

Prayer for world peace

Great God, who has told us Vengeance is mine, save us from ourselves, save us from the vengeance in our hearts and the acid in our souls.

Prayer of hope and remembrance on the anniversary of 9/11

Creator God, we come to the end of a year filled with grief and hope. A year when we were asked to be united, but sometimes felt more apart. It was a year in which the drumbeats of war and despair mingled with the calls for peace and hope. Help those who have lost loved ones to feel the love that surrounds them. Help all of us to live up to the call of Jesus, to be “prophets of love and servants of reconciliation.”

Our spirituality: A perspective

We are women whose spirituality acknowledges
the ever-present glory of God, who is love.

As Religious of the Sacred Heart
of the Grand Coteau/Baton Rouge Area

We are women
whose spirituality acknowledges
the ever-present glory of God, who is love.

Whether through prayer, contemplation,
community, friendship, or ministry,
we believe that the
Heart of Christ
brings us into relationship with
God, persons, and all creation.
