As we listen to the words of Peter in today’s first reading, we can say to ourselves that we know the story of Jesus of Nazareth. We have heard it before. Yet, we have arrived at this Easter differently, through months of uncertainty and unrest.

Lent 2021
The poor you will always have with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them... – Mark 14:7-8
Enfolding and Grace
“Given as gift, our mission is a sacred work fulfilled only through the enfolding of it by each generation. This work of mission is greater than this moment, any of us, and all our individual and collective efforts. The realization of this incontrovertible truth is grace.”
- Goals and Criteria, Sacred Heart Schools United States and Canada, 2020 Introduction
In today’s Gospel Jesus sees Nicodemus and acknowledges the love he holds for him. God sees each one of us as Nicodemus. Why is it so hard to imagine that God loves me? Is that possible? I am flawed, and I sin. I make mistakes, and I hurt people.
We are taught service is with our hands – when we are doing things. Whether that’s writing a check, giving clothing donations, time collecting non-perishable items for a nonprofit or gathering an event group the last Saturday of the month to package boxes of household products and taking time to deliver said packages to a car trunk or steps of a family home.
We’ve been invited to go on a trip. Yes, a trip! Lent is a journey and today’s Gospel takes us on a trip. I remember when our family took trips and used a “AAA Triptik” to plot our way. Now, we’ve got Google maps or similar. However, nowadays we aren’t often “going” anywhere.
We invite you into a guided prayer and reflection offered by Mary Finlayson, RSCJ, and Lynne Lieux, RSCJ, of the Vocations Ministry Team,
We believe that Love ignited a fire that created a universe, a constellation of flaming orbs, temporal, yet on a scale beyond our own short lease on this star. Love, however expressed, perceived or imagined, is the match that initiates life. And on life’s journey, we learn how Love behaves.
A prayer for Lent offered by the United States – Canada Province in the midst of uncertain times.
