The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration of prayer and action for our common home. Together, the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect God’s creation. The season starts September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends October 4, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations.

Our Mother of Sorrows, with strength from above you stood by the cross, sharing in the sufferings of Jesus, and with tender care you bore Him in your arms, mourning and weeping.
With the changes of the last year has come adaptation and emergence into something new. With a global pandemic still looming, the Society of the Sacred Heart, United – States Canada Province, continues to emerge into a new future, remembering and reflecting on its' roots, remaining open to the present, and focusing on how the experiences and challenges of this unique time inform the Society's mission moving forward.

Religious of the Sacred Heart, Eileen Bearss, RSCJ, died August 3, 2021, in Atherton, California. She was ninety-six years old and a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart for seventy-five years. Eileen was born on October 17, 1924, in Portland, Oregon, to Harry James Bearss and Mary Ellen McKenna Bearss. The second of four children, Eileen inherited her great love of learning from her parents who met as classroom teachers in a country school in the state of Washington. In 1940, her father left the classroom to begin working as an auditor for the Union Pacific Railroad.
The United States – Canada Archives worked with Patricia Wolfe, alumna of Newton College of the Sacred Heart (closed in 1974), to create a website about the school and Religious of the Sacred Heart.

On July 10, 2021, Ruth Cunnings, RSCJ, professed her first vows in the Society of the Sacred Heart. The vow ceremony and liturgy, which took place at the Shrine of Saint Philippine Duchesne in St. Charles, Missouri, were live-streamed for friends, family and RSCJ who could not be present.

The Society of the Sacred Heart, United States – Canada Province, wholeheartedly supports the July 13 statement from the Cuba Conference of Religious, who have affirmed the right of Cubans to express their desire for a better life through peaceful protests. Our hearts go out to the people of Cuba, including our religious there, who are struggling for the basic necessities of life in the midst of a continuing surge of COVID-19 deaths.
