As Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) in the United States – Canada Province, we are called by our 2016 Chapter Calls to stand in solidarity with “those who have been wounded, displaced, and excluded,” and “to defend justice, peace, and the integrity of creation in response to all of those who are searching for meaning in their lives.” (General Chapter 2016)

The Society of the Sacred Heart, United States – Canada Province, wholeheartedly supports the July 13 statement from the Cuba Conference of Religious, who have affirmed the right of Cubans to express their desire for a better life through peaceful protests. Our hearts go out to the people of Cuba, including our religious there, who are struggling for the basic necessities of life in the midst of a continuing surge of COVID-19 deaths.

The National Black Sisters Conference, together with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), have released a statement on the critical importance of ensuring that all people – no matter race, zip code, economic situation – enjoy the sacred right to vote. The Society of the Sacred Heart United States – Canada Province supports and endorses this statement, as well as the May 8th John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Action Day mentioned in the statement.

The Society of the Sacred Heart is united in solidarity with all people fleeing their homes in search of a life free of oppression, marginalization, human rights violations and poverty. We fully endorse the statement from the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) calling upon the Biden Administration to fulfill its promise to increase the number of refugees resettled in the United States to 62,500 this fiscal year.

Dear Members of the Sacred Heart Community,
Last Tuesday we were heart-broken to learn of the deadly shootings in Georgia. Eight people were killed, and six of them were Asian women. We mourn the loss of each person, and we condemn all violence committed against Asians, especially Asian women.
