As we approach the great Feast of Pentecost, when the courage to speak the truth and witness to the invincible power of God’s love became visible in the birth of the Church, we stop to reflect on the gun violence in the United States and the responsibility we have for transformative education and love.

We stand with our young adults of conscience, courage and intellect in seeking to build the Kingdom of God through actions of awakened truth, action and justice. As Religious of the Sacred Heart we believe social justice movements are the very expression of Christian values as modeled by the life of Jesus.

The National Black Sisters Conference, together with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), have released a statement on the critical importance of ensuring that all people – no matter race, zip code, economic situation – enjoy the sacred right to vote. The Society of the Sacred Heart United States – Canada Province supports and endorses this statement, as well as the May 8th John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Action Day mentioned in the statement.

Dear Members of the Sacred Heart Community,

Last Tuesday we were heart-broken to learn of the deadly shootings in Georgia. Eight people were killed, and six of them were Asian women. We mourn the loss of each person, and we condemn all violence committed against Asians, especially Asian women.
