This past January, Karla Reyes joined the staff of Society of the Sacred Heart United States – Canada Province and began working for the Province’s Young Adult and Vocation Ministry Office.

Religious of the Sacred Heart, Merle Pedersen, died peacefully, at the age of 101 years, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Caritas Residence, Halifax. Born in 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Daniel Pedersen and Louise Bahner Pedersen.

Religious of the Sacred Heart Nancy Ghio died on March 31, 2023, in Atherton, California. She was 98 years old and a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart for 78 years. Nancy was born on September 4, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Humbert S. Ghio and Mary Sheehan Ghio. She grew up with two brothers, one of whom became a priest in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

On the evening of Thursday, March 23, 2023, a fire broke out and consumed the former Society of the Sacred Heart convent and school at Kenwood in Albany, New York. The Kenwood property had a long and storied history in the Society.

Jan was born on October 20, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to Edward A. Dunn and Jane Hebert Dunn. She entered the Society of the Sacred Heart on July 24, 1969, at Kenwood. She pronounced her first vows at Villa Duchesne in St. Louis, Missouri in 1972 and made her final profession on May 31, 1979, in Rome.

Religious of the Sacred Heart, Carol Campbell, died March 19, 2023, in Atherton, California. Carol was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the only child of Leo D. and Katherine Mikulsky Campbell. She attended parochial school for six years and then transferred to public middle and high schools. Carol had planned to attend a state college. However, her parents, feeling that her Catholic education needed reinforcement, told her that she would go to Duchesne College of the Sacred Heart, a women’s college in Omaha, Nebraska.

Lucie was born on July 29, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri to Bernard William Nordmann and Lucie Delor Fitzwilliam Nordmann. She was one of eight children and the only daughter.
